Job Title: Research Scientist – Immunology
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Kyowa Kirin Pharmaceutical Research, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyowa Hakko Kirin, is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. level Immunologist with demonstrated technical and analytical competence to support the discovery and validation of novel therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Highly qualified applicants must demonstrate an aptitude for project leadership, therapeutic target selection and a thorough understanding of fundamental immunological processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads or co-leads a project team in the role of Project Leader with assumed responsibility for validation of the target and successful delivery of an optimized lead candidate molecule for therapeutic development.
  • Develops research proposals for new projects from both internal sources and external partners; provides expert insight on feasibility of prospective projects.
  • Establishes daily or weekly routines necessary to meet project timelines and advancement.
  • Participates in decision-making regarding project plans and short-term research strategies.
  • Prepares necessary documentation for project reviews (proposals, monthly, quarterly, annual, or study reports), patent applications, and publications. Prepares and delivers presentations for project proposals, reviews, and project stage-up meetings with upper management.
  • Manages scientific direction of outside collaborations.
  • Provides information to develop project-related budget for capital equipment, contract research, and critical supplies and conserves project related costs.

Job Specific Skills and Abilities Individual should be proficient in the following skills:

  • Expertise in Immunology with experience and/or understanding of working on discovery of novel therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases in a BioPharma environment.
  • Broad knowledge base in autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, including sound understanding of and experience with key cellular and molecular immunological techniques.
  • In-depth experience and/or knowledge in designing, performing, and analyzing complex in vitro and in vivo functional evaluations of antibody and/or oligonucleotide drug candidates in assays and models of autoimmunity/inflammation.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage technical staff in the division or project team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Also may directly manage daily work of non-supervisory employees, which includes providing feedback on performance to supervisors.

Education and Experience
Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) plus more than 3 years of postdoctoral experience. Industry experience in a relevant area of research is preferred. Experience in Project Leadership; experience in selecting and proposing novel drug targets.
