Job Title: Senior Research Scientist – Immunology

Summary: Kyowa Kirin Pharmaceutical Research, a dynamic BioPharma organization engaged in the discovery of novel therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. level Immunologist with BioPharma experience. Highly qualified applicants must demonstrate an aptitude for project leadership, therapeutic target selection and a thorough understanding of fundamental immunological processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads a project team in the role of Project Leader with assumed responsibility for successful delivery of an optimized lead candidate molecule for therapeutic development.
  • Proposes novel targeting strategies
  • Develops research proposals for new projects; provides expert insight on feasibility of prospective projects.
  • Meets project timelines and advancement criteria; prepares long-term research project plans, when necessary.
  • Participates in decision-making regarding project plans and short-term research strategies.
  • Prepares necessary documentation for project reviews, patent applications, study reports, and publications. Prepares and delivers presentations for project proposals, reviews, and project stage-up meetings with upper management.
  • Manages scientific direction of external collaborations.
  • Provides information to develop project-related budget for capital equipment, contract research, and critical supplies and conserves project related costs.

Required Job Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in Immunology with both experience, and an expert understanding, of the discovery of novel therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases in a BioPharma environment.
  • Broad knowledge base in autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, including sound understanding of and experience with key cellular and molecular immunological techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in designing, performing, and analyzing complex in vitro and in vivo functional evaluations of drug candidates in assays and models of autoimmunity/inflammation.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage technical staff in the division or project team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Also may directly manage daily work of non-supervisory employees, which includes providing feedback on performance to supervisors.

Education and Experience
Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) plus postdoctoral experience and more than 3 years of industry experience in a relevant area of research. Experience in Project Leadership; excellent understanding of Biologics drug discovery and development; experience in selecting and proposing novel drug targets.
